Man charged with attempted murder of girlfriend
POST FALLS, Idaho (AP) -- A convicted sex offender from northern Idaho is charged with attempted first-degree murder after his girlfriend was strangled until she lost consciousness.
Post Falls police arrested 38-year-old Kenneth Edward Schleining of Dalton Gardens when he met with his probation officer on Tuesday. His bail was set at $500,000.
Capt. Greg McLean says the 26-year-old woman told investigators Schleining strangled her as they sat in a vehicle at a truck stop in Post Falls. She said that when she regained consciousness, Schleining told her to go back to sleep because she would be dead soon. She was able to fight her way out of the car.
McLean says the woman suffered retinal bleeding and had scratches on her body. She told a friend about the assault and the friend contacted police.
