Nampa Police say pit bull shooting was justified
Nampa Police say an officer was justified in shooting a pit bull, and have released a police video of the incident. Officers were doing a welfare check, but they say as soon as the homeowner answered -- the two dogs get loose. NPD said that while the investigation isn't over, the video clearly shows the dogs attack the officer.
"People think or are putting this out there that police officers don't care about animals, and that this was done out of malice and I'm here to tell the community and our valley that was not the case, this was done out of self-defense," said Deputy Chief Craig Kingsbury with the Nampa Police Department.
But the owner says police went too far. The welfare check that originally led police to the home turned out to be unfounded.
