Karney Fire expected to be fully contained Wednesday
The Karney Fire has been held at 440 acres by the firefighters working on the blaze. Dave Olson with the Boise National Forest said full containment is expected by Sept. 26 at the end of the day.
"Fire crews on the Karney Fire spent Monday thoroughly checking burned areas for heat, and [Tuesday] about 45 firefighters will continue to 'grid' the fire area to eliminate any leftover hot spots," said Olson. "Gridding involves a 20-person crew working in lines to check every inch of ground burned by the fire and dig up and cool spots where heat is detected."
61 personnel worked on the fire Monday and the crew is working to reduce that number today.
The fire, which started on Monday, Sept. 17, has burned 440 acres of private land within the boundaries of an Idaho Department of Lands forest protective district in Boise County.
