Nampa School Superintendent resigns; budget cuts “worse than previously thought”
We have learned that Nampa School District Superintendent Gary Larsen has submitted his resignation, and that the District’s recently-announced budget shortfall is “worse than previously thought.”
Larsen’s resignation was announced Monday afternoon in an e-mail from Nampa School District Public Information Officer Allison Westfall. Westfall stated, “The district’s financial condition is worse than previously thought. The scope has not been determined. The board at its meeting Tuesday will consider hiring an independent auditor.”
The Board has scheduled a special meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Last month, the District announced it would need to make cuts after a budgeting error resulted in a $2.8 million dollar shortfall. At that time, Larsen blamed staff reductions that “spread (his) staff to thin” –- which led to the budget error
Following that announcement, the District’s budget director submitted his resignation.
The reasons for Larsen’s resignation were not immediately released.
We have a crew on this story and will bring you more details as they develop.
