Halstead Fire near Stanley now 59 percent contained, Salmon River still closed to floating
The Halstead Fire, located 18 miles north of Stanley, has grown to over 172,000 acres but is now 59 percent contained.
Temperatures are expected to be a little hotter today with air quality below 7500-foot elevation to remain stagnant with reduced visibility. An inversion at 1300 feet above the valley is unlikely to lift today and the Stage I air quality advisory for Lemhi and Custer Counties remains in effect.
The Salmon River is closed to floating from Buckhorn Bridge to the Sawtooth National Recreation Area eastern boundary from September 3-22 during salmon spawning. Bank fishing is open. The river will be open to all user groups as of September 23.
