BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- An attorney accused of assaulting a woman at his Nampa law office has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery under an agreement with prosecutors.

The Idaho Statesman reports 50-year-old John Prior faces up to six months in jail at his Nov. 13 sentencing.

Prosecutors initially charged Prior with felony battery, saying he tried to have sex with a woman who rebuffed his advances during a May 2011 encounter at his office. Prior's attorney countered that his client engaged in consensual sexual activity, and the woman's story had changed.

Prior's trial started last week but the jury was sent home Friday when he reached a deal with prosecutors, pleading guilty to a lesser charge. If convicted of felony battery, Prior would have faced up to 20 years in prison.
