Starting Wednesday, Sept. 19, the University of Idaho will be holding their first Katy Benoit Safety Forum. During the forum they will be launching the "I Got Your Back" campaign as well as "several safety-related activities that will be held through Sept. 27," according to Karen Hunt with the university. "All will be aimed at raising student awareness of high-risk behaviors and situations, providing practical intervention strategies, and identifying and publicizing a host of available resources and responses."

The "I Got Your Back" safety awareness campaign is meant to encourage students to watch out for one another. They will highlight students and faculty who have taken care of friends, classmates and teammates.

“The forum, which will become an annual fall event, will focus on improving campus safety by urging students to help other students who may be in distress or danger,” said Bruce Pitman, vice provost for student affairs and dean of students.

Katy Benoit was a University of Idaho graduate student who was shot and killed by a former professor in August of 2011.
