Twin Falls police handcuff child who hit, bit parents
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) -- Twin Falls police in south-central Idaho say an officer put a 10-year-old boy in handcuffs because the child posed a threat to himself and his parents.
Staff Sgt. Terry Thueson tells The Times-News that police were called Friday after the child repeatedly hit and bit his parents and grandfather.
Thueson says the officer believed handcuffing the child was the least invasive manner of controlling him without causing injury or more harm to anyone else.
Staff Sgt. Mike Covington says Twin Falls City Police don't have a policy about handcuffing children.
He says most 10-years-olds will settle down when told to do so, but police must do something with those who remain out of control.
