1 of Libya victims was Ore. native
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- One of the four Americans who died in the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was born in Portland and graduated from high school in Oregon City.
He was 41-year-old Tyrone S. Woods, a former Navy SEAL who was working on a private security detail for the U.S. State Department.
The Oregonian reports that Woods lived in both Oregon and Washington state, graduated from high school in 1989, joined the Navy the next year and moved to California. He retired from the SEALS in 2010.
The State Department said he had protected U.S. diplomatic personnel from Central America to the Middle East
His mother, Cheryl Croft Bennett of Oregon City, told the paper that Woods "was always looking for a challenge and always looking to push himself."
