Woman pleads guilty to stealing from elderly roommate
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) -- A 33-year-old Buhl woman has pleaded guilty to stealing about $2,000 from her 82-year-old roommate, making the woman unable to afford her medications or insurance premiums.
The Times-News reports Shon Leslie Briggs pleaded guilty Tuesday to forgery and abusing a vulnerable adult.
A sheriff's report said Briggs spent so much of the woman's money that the woman could not afford her heart and seizure medications, putting her "in grave danger."
Deputies said Briggs took the elderly woman's checkbook and bought cigarettes, beer and jewelry, among other items.
Prosecutors will recommend that Briggs spend three to six years in prison and be required to pay restitution to the victim when she is sentenced on Oct. 29.
