Citizens' group in Middleton wants to recall Mayor Taylor
A citizens group is accusing the Middleton mayor of being unethical and conducting illegal activities.
On Wednesday, the group released a 100-page report, which they claim has proof of the allegations against him.
The group of concerned citizens told us they hope to recall Middleton Mayor Darin Taylor, around the time of the general election in November.
The long report contains three sections; the illegal actions, unethical actions and unadvisable actions of Mayor Taylor.
The members of the group accuse the mayor of spending money, before he got into office. “My taxpayer dollars went into those invoices to attorneys and engineers,” said Denae Pearson, Citizens Group spokesperson.
However, the mayor said his actions are being misconstrued. “It’s actually not the way it occurred. I did assemble a team of attorneys and engineers, so on January, we would be prepared to lead the city,” said Mayor Taylor.
According to the report, Taylor held secret meetings and appointed unqualified employees. For example, the report shows the new public works director is not a licensed engineer in Idaho.
In response, the mayor told us he wanted an administrator, who really understands budgets and finance. He said he has other employees, who are licensed in engineering.
The group turned in 20 signatures to the city office, officially requesting a petition to recall Mayor Taylor.
The citizens group plans to show the 100-page report to the Canyon County prosecutor and to the state attorney general to ask for a formal investigation.
Taylor said he has nothing to hide, and he will cooperate with the investigation.
The city clerk has 15 days to review the 20 signatures and will let the group know if the members can continue with the petition.
