Sheriff identifies homicide victim found near Lake Lowell Monday

Canyon County Sheriff Lt. Marv Dashiell said the victim found near Lake Lowell Monday has been identified as James Groat, 27 of Nampa.

An autopsy conducted this morning showed that Groat sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Evidence recovered indicates the weapon used was a medium caliber handgun.

"Mr. Groat was discovered by a passerby at approximately 9:00 am on August 27, 2012, near a field in the area of Midland Blvd. and Locust Ln., just south Nampa," said Lt. Dashiell. "Detectives are continuing to follow-up with interviews and evidence processing at this time. A motive for the crime has not been determined."
