Boise Police responded to assist firefighters at the scene of a fire on South Banner Street Sunday evening, August 26 around 7:30 p.m.

Boise Fire personnel tell officers they were attempting to suppress the fire when the suspect arrived in a vehicle, nearly striking one of the firefighters. The man, later identified as Russell Doty, 51 of Eagle, exited his vehicle, entered a large trackhoe and immediately drove on top of the pile of burning bark.

Fire personnel attempted to get the suspect to exit the trackhoe and come to a safe location but the suspect refused. Fire supervisors tell police the suspect's actions prevented and delayed them from being able to quickly and aggressively fight the fire.

When the suspect exiting the trackhoe, officers attempted a patdown search for weapons. As officers attempted to pat the suspect down, he turned to his right and hit an officer in the chest with his right elbow.

Doty was arrested on charges of Felony Battery on an Officer and Resisting and Obstructing.
