N. Idaho driver sentenced in fatal 2011 collision
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) -- A 20-year-old northern Idaho driver who struck and killed a developmentally delayed woman near a Moscow intersection last April has been placed on probation, with prosecutors calling the death a terrible, tragic accident.
Ranger Adams pleaded guilty Wednesday to vehicular manslaughter under an agreement with prosecutors. He was sentenced to 18 months of probation and granted a withheld judgment, which means the charge won't show up as a conviction on his record.
The Moscow-Pullman Daily News reports Adams struck Carrie Lokteff as she was crossing the street the night of April 28, 2011. Lokteff, who was a custodian at the Latah County courthouse, was hospitalized and died the next day.
Prosecutor Bill Thompson says Adams was traveling under the speed limit and simply did not see Lokteff.
