Idaho authorities seek sex offender after shooting
REXBURG, Idaho (AP) -- A sex offender from Rexburg is accused of shooting his friend before fleeing into rural eastern Idaho.
Fremont County Sheriff's deputies are searching for 34-year-old Jerrod Hillman in the sparsely populated area surrounding Island Park.
The 34-year-old Hillman, who has two rape convictions and was already being sought by authorities as a non-compliant sex offender, is now suspected of shooting his friend, 43-year-old Monte Sommer, in the leg.
Authorities say the incident happened south of Ponds Lodge in Island Park on Monday near U.S. Highway 20.
The Idaho Falls Post Register reports that the sheriff's office is asking residents to be on the lookout for the 6-foot-tall, 195-pound Hillman -- and to make sure their unoccupied homes or cabins in this vacation region west of Yellowstone National Park are secure.
