CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) -- A South Carolina prison inmate has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the 1995 shooting death of an Idaho man.

Jose Flores was sentenced Tuesday in the Nov. 23, 1995 death of Ignacio Rivera in Caldwell. Flores pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. He has said he and Rivera were fighting over the gun when it went off, hitting Rivera in the chest and arms.

In 1996, Flores began serving a 30-year sentence for sexual misconduct in South Carolina. He was extradited to Idaho earlier this year through the work of the Canyon County Cold Case Task Force.

Flores is being returned to South Carolina to complete his prison sentence there. If he is paroled, federal immigration authorities plan to deport him to Mexico.
