Idaho man says he was wrongfully jailed by Canyon County
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- A southwestern Idaho man is suing Canyon County because he says he was wrongfully arrested and held in jail for several hours because of an apparent clerical error.
Timothy Earl Aldous filed an amended version of the lawsuit in federal court on Tuesday, contending his civil rights were violated when he was arrested and held in the jail on Dec. 13, 2011.
Aldous says he was ticketed in September 2011 for failing to have proof of insurance in his car. He went to the courthouse a few days later and showed a clerk his insurance, and the ticket was supposed to be dismissed. But he was arrested in December over the misdemeanor and held for a few hours before officials realized the mistake.
The county says it's not at fault.
