BURNS, Ore. (AP) -- The Oregon Cattlemen's Association is handing out nearly 500 tons of hay to ranchers burned out by this summer's range fires in the southeastern corner of the state.

The association said Wednesday that trucks are taking deliveries to seven ranching families in the Jordan Valley and Frenchglen areas, where fire killed hundreds of cattle and left thousands more without forage.

The donated hay is enough to feed about 1,000 cattle for 30 days.

At 12-mile Ranch near Basque Station, Jeanette Yturriondobeitia says the 30 tons of hay coming their way will not be enough to make up for the rangeland they lost to fire, but people have been very generous, and every little bit helps.
