Kustra says Boise State poised to join Big West
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Boise State President Bob Kustra says the school is poised to join the Big West for most of its non-football programs.
Kustra told The Idaho Statesman Wednesday he has little doubt conference officials will approve Boise State's membership in coming weeks.
Boise State currently competes in the Mountain West Conference. But that membership expires next year when the Broncos football team joins The Big East Conference.
The football team's move forced Kustra to find another conference for men's and women's basketball, tennis, track, volleyball and other athletic programs.
Boise State initially considered moving back to the Western Athletic Conference, but that league's collapse brought the Big West into the picture.
Some of the other members of the Big West include Hawaii, San Diego State and Long Beach State.
