Crews making progress on several Idaho wildfires
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Federal wildfire officials say crews on the ground are making progress on a couple of forest fires burning across the state -- despite another day of strong winds and hot temperatures.
Boise National Forest Spokesman Dave Olson says the Springs Fire burning near the southwestern Idaho town of Banks is now 65 percent contained -- with full containment expected Monday.
Northwest of Boise, crews are slowly making progress on the 73-square-mile Trinity Ridge Fire. Olson says the fire is still growing, but has slowed recently due to excessive smoke shading.
He also says expansion into the neighboring river drainage is posing logistical challenges for firefighters.
Meanwhile, fire commanders are encouraging evacuation of homes along Highway 75 from Joe's Gulch to Sunbeam due to growth of the Halstead Fire near Stanley.
