The Trinity Ridge Fire is growing - it’s now at nearly 50,000 acres.

Boise National Forest officials say the cost to fight the fire is approaching $5 million.

Residents in nearby towns are planning for the possibility of evacuation orders.

On Tuesday, the incident commander for the Trinity Ridge Fire told residents the fire is unpredictable.

Each subalpine fir tree burns like a torch, sending embers into the atmosphere.

When those embers land, they ignite into a spot fire.

So firefighters aren’t fighting one firewall - they’re fighting hundreds of spot fires.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire is about six miles north of Pine.

The Elmore County Sheriff will determine when and if to send evacuation orders.
