Family was trying to rescue 4-year-old from SUV when it rolled into reservoir
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Boise County officials say a 4-year-old girl died when the car she was in rolled into Lucky Peak Reservoir as a family was trying to get out of the vehicle after a crash.
Chief Deputy Dale Rogers tells the Idaho Statesman that David Persons was driving a sport utility vehicle on Arrowrock Road on Aug. 9 when he lost control. It went off the road and about 90 feet down an embankment before coming to a stop about 70 feet above the reservoir.
Persons told investigators he got an 8-year-old girl out of the vehicle while Tori Miller rescued their infant son. Miller was trying to get 4-year-old Pearl Sittner out when the SUV began rolling down the hill and into the water.
Divers removed Pearl's body from the SUV about three hours after the crash.
