Police: Arsonist tries burning occupied trailer
HAYDEN, Idaho (AP) -- Detectives in northern Idaho are investigating after someone apparently tried to light a travel trailer on fire while a family of four was inside.
The Coeur d'Alene Press reports the Hayden family escaped unharmed and the trailer sustained minor damage. The parents told the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department they were watching TV and their two children were sleeping when they heard loud popping outside Sunday night. That's when they found flames spreading on wood paneling on the back of the unit.
Investigators found a burn line extending from the trailer to a melted gas can in the street. The father told investigators he had a confrontation earlier in the day with a man in a pickup who was spinning his tires and stirring up dirt in the trailer park.
