Child on bicycle hit by car in Boise Monday evening
Boise Police are investigating a collision that occurred this evening between a car and a bicycle Monday night.
Witnesses tell officers the bike, riden by an 11-year-old, was riding against traffic in the bike lane in the road headed down the hill on the southbound side of S. Curtis Road. Near Camas Lane, the driver of a sedan pulled out of a driveway and reportedly did not see the cyclist. They collided.
The child on the bike was taken to a nearby hospital with what appeared to officers on scene to be minor, non-life threatening injuries. The child was not wearing a helmet.
No citations have been issued.
"While this remains under investigation, it's a good reminder for all of us to teach our children when riding in the road in a bike lane, for their safety, they must ride in the same direction as traffic. And motorists always need to take a double-take when it comes to watching out for kids. Regardless of who may be at fault, no one wants to hit a kid on a bike," said Lt. Rob Gallas of the Boise Police Department patrol Division.
