Simpson joins GOP members in blasting Bachmann
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Add another Republican to the list of those criticizing former presidential candidate Michele Bachmann over her call for a probe of a State Department employee's alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
On Friday, U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson of Idaho joined U.S. Rep. John Kline and former Sen. Norm Coleman of Minnesota and Sen. John McCain of Arizona in blasting Bachmann.
Bachmann, a Republican House member from Minnesota, has linked Huma Abedin (HOO'-muh AB'-uh-deen), a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, to the Muslim group.
Simpson told the Idaho Statesman that Bachmann's bid for a probe into whether the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the government reflects poorly on all Republicans.
Idaho's Simpson added that Bachmann's comments were "outrageous" and resurrect Joseph McCarthy-era Communist witch hunts of the 1950s.
