District 8 GOP picks Gestrin to replace Roberts
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Republicans in District 8 have picked a former elected official from Valley County to replace House lawmaker Ken Roberts on the November ballot.
Party officials voted last weekend at a meeting in Lowman to put Terry Gestrin on the ballot. The Idaho Statesman reports Gestrin won an 18-15 vote of John Blattler, and will face Democrat Karla Miller in the heavily Republican district this fall.
Gestrin is a former Valley County Commissioner and in May he lost in a three-way primary for the Senate.
Roberts is also from Valley County and served as House Republican Caucus Chairman before resigning from the legislature this month. He stepped down after being appointed by Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter to the Idaho Tax Commission.
