Nearly 2,000 comic book stores across North America and around the world are joining forces to give away millions of comic books absolutely free of charge to customers of all ages, as part of Free Comic Book Day, Saturday, May 5.

The event encourages new readers to visit their local comic shops and see what comics have to offer. According to a study published in the Journal of Child Language the average comic book introduces children to nearly twice as many new words as the average children’s book and more than five times as many as the average child-adult conversation.

There are at least six stores in the Treasure Valley area participating.

Along with free reading material, select comic book stores will also have creator signings and encourage customers to dress up as their favorite super hero or comic book character while attending the event. To find a local store in your area go to http://www.freecomicbookday.com.
