Nampa St. Al's to hold groundbreaking this week for new expansion
A Spring Groundbreaking event will take place this Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in Nampa as construction on the Saint Alphonsus Nampa Health Plaza expansion gets underway.
Saint Alphonsus Health System is investing $33.5 million in the Nampa community to expand access and enhance medical services. “This is an investment in the health and well-being of individuals, families and businesses in Canyon County and beyond," said Sally Jeffcoat, Saint Alphonsus Health System President and CEO. “This investment further underscores our commitment to providing quality healthcare close to home and helping our communities grow and thrive.”
The 54,000 square foot expansion includes the addition of a 24/7 Emergency Department and the Fredric Birkeland Maternity Center. The 20-bed obstetrics unit is named in honor of Dr. Fred Birkeland. Dr. Birkeland delivered more than five thousand babies in his career as an obstetrician in Canyon County before he passed away in 2007. The Saint Alphonsus Nampa Health Plaza will also be home to a new Comprehensive Heart Care Center with ten critical care inpatient beds.
“The groundbreaking event allows the community to be a part of positive growth in our area, said Karl Keeler, CEO Saint Alphonsus Medical Center – Nampa. “This expansion reinforces our Mission of being a trusted partner for life. It also continues the 94 year heritage begun by the Sisters of Mercy in 1917 to serve the community and provide hope and healing.”
The new Emergency Department is scheduled to open later this year. The Heart Care Center and the Fredric Birkeland Maternity Center are expected to open in December 2012.
