The Twin Falls Police Department has received information about another phone scam hitting the area.

Victims report receiving a call from an 876 area code. The caller tells the victim that they have been chosen as a winner in a lottery or contest and that they only need to send a small amount, usually thousands of dollars, to receive a multi-million dollar winning.

The scammers are targeting the senior population, because they usually are at home during the day, live alone, and are trusting and welcoming to a friendly voice. Once they have gotten you involved in the scam they will continue to call you and make threats to you or your family if you don’t send the money.

Be wary of anyone calling telling you that you have won a prize that you haven’t entered.

Once you have sent money to these scams, it is very difficult if not impossible for the police to help you recover the loss.

If you have any questions or have been the victim of this or any other scam, please contact your local law enforcement agency.
