Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin skated with 16 year old Idaho wish child and hockey player, Sam, after the Capitals practice at Kettler Capitals Cineplex on Wednesday, March 7, as part of ESPN’s My Wish series.

Sam has T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma and had his most heartfelt wish come true as he requested to meet his hockey idol, Ovechkin, and skated with him after practice through Make-A-Wish.

Sam, who plays on his high school’s hockey team, took part in a special Capitals’ practice led by the Capitals captain. He started off the morning by taking a tour of the practice facility and Caps’ locker room, where he had his own stall, stocked with hockey equipment donated by Bauer.

Sam’s welcome home wish party is being sponsored by the Idaho Steelheads during the game on Saturday, March 31 at CenturyLink Arena. Sam, his family and hockey team will celebrate his wish while supporting the Steelheads.

Make-A-Wish Idaho is celebrating its 25th year serving the entire state of Idaho. With the help and support of over 200 volunteers and our generous donors, we grant an average of 90 wishes annually. For more information about Make-A-Wish Idaho, visit www.idaho.wish.org
