Last week, the Middleton Rural Fire Protection District Commissioners and the Executive Board for Middleton Firefighters Local 4626 met to discuss operational changes that were necessary to continue service delivery at current levels.

This reorganization has become necessary due to the diminished property values the district has suffered in recent years. They have had to cut approximately $423,159 from their operating budget. These cuts included: elimination of Fire Chiefs’ position and capital outlay funds, and reductions in most budget line items.

The following changes were put into place yesterday: The position of Fire Chief has been vacated, Chief Trosky has taken a voluntary demotion to Deputy Chief, Deputy Chief Trosky will serve as Company Officer on B-shift, Deputy Chief Trosky will retain Fire Marshall responsibilities for the District, inspections, permits, plan reviews, etc. will be by appointment only, current fees are under review, expect future increases, other administrative duties may be contracted out, The Middleton Board of Commissioners shall serve as the administrative leadership.

The Middleton Board of Commissioners will be asking District Patrons to approve a temporary levy
override on May 15, 2012 in the amount of $575,240 and would be in effect for 2 years.
