Fire crews from a number of agencies responded to a grass fire Thursday afternoon near Gary Lane and Hill Road.

The call came in about 1:50 p.m., according to Boise Fire Department spokeswoman Lynn Hightower. She said the fire appeared to have started just north of Hill Road and east of Gary Lane.

Flames burned up and over a ridge. “A couple of structures -- a trailer and two outbuildings -- were in the line of the fire, but firefighters kept it from burning over the ridge, Hightower said.

Meridian, Eagle and Star Fire Departments helped Boise fire crews by sending brush rigs (off-road rigs) to help the firefighting effort.

The fire burned in fairly light fuels -- pockets of sage brush and cheat grass, Hightower said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Ada County dispatchers tell us the fire damaged several acres.
