Romney campaigns in Boise
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says Rick Santorum isn't a fiscal conservative, directly attacking his rival for the first time in more than a week.
Romney has avoided criticizing the former Pennsylvania senator without prompting since Santorum won contests in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri on Feb. 8.
Romney said in Boise Friday that voters who want a fiscal conservative, in his words, "can't vote for Rick Santorum." He says Santorum voted to raise the debt ceiling and allowed government to expand during his 20 years in Congress.
Both Romney's campaign and his allies are running attack ads against Santorum in Michigan, which holds its primary Feb. 28.
