Horseshoe Bend superintendent of schools resigns amid controversy

Horseshoe Bend superintendent of schools, John Cook, resigned Thursday morning amid allegations he is a polygamist, allegations Cook flat out denies.

Boise resident Dan Reiman claims Cook is married to his daughter Jana, in addition to being married to his first wife. Reiman has not spoken to Jana in years, but last december his family received a letter from his daughter stating that Cook recently married her while still staying married to his first wife.

On Tuesday evening, Reiman came forward to the Horseshoe Bend school board alleging Superintendent Cook was breaking the law.

"He's probably a sick man and I think he needs professional counseling," Reiman alleged.  "And he can try to take advantage of vulnerable women by manipulating and brainwashing them but in the end he knows what he's doing and that he's wrong."

We spoke to John Cook several times via phone Thursday. Mr. Cook maintains he has done nothing wrong. He also said he was not forced out by the school district, but tendered his resignation on his own terms.
