Kegs that deliver themselves! No, it’s not heaven. It’s Idaho. And in our state, a man like Eagle’s Matt Blazek can realize a lifelong dream by carting beer wine and tobacco right to your doorstep.
“I was always afraid that I was going to wake up and be on the other side of this interview,” Blazek said, “watching somebody else doing [what I'm doing now].”
But until September, Blazek held a good job in a tough economy. He also had a family to support. Transforming into the Beer Guy seemed irresponsible.
Then, FedEx let him go. And Matt over-nighted himself into the beer-delivery business, applying for a whole shelf-full of various permits allowing him to buy, distribute, possess and sell.
“[You get] your licenses and then you get a logo and then it’s on a trailer and before you know it you’re open and people are actually calling you,” Blasek said.
Today’s 6 News called and ordered a 12-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon from The Beer Guys. Less than 30 minutes later, Matt arrived at the station with the beer in hand.
“It’s exciting,” he said, “but it’s nerve-wracking because the economy is slow. You start your own business and you’re like: What am I going to do, you know? So, yeah, there’s a lot of stress and a little panic.”
But those feelings seemed well worth it, Thursday – just a week after The Beer Guys opened for business. A man who’d always wanted to work for himself, Matt transformed his home into an office. Legally, he can only consume alcohol in the man-cave in a shed behind his home. But he knows: If his scheme does pay off, it’ll do so in spades.
“I’m going to need people and need people fast,” Matt said.
Until then, look for Matt driving his insulated trailer, sporting a log designed by his wife and repping all the hard work, ingenuity and independence that make America so great.
