Due to the extra trash people accumulate during the Christmas holiday, Sanitary Services is offering unlimited trash collection to Meridian residents for no additional charge during the week of December 26 to December 30.

During that week, residents will be allowed to place unlimited amounts of household trash at the curb without penalty. Residents are asked to fill their SSC wheeled trash carts first. The cart must be placed at the curb for crews to pick up.

If you have additional household trash, the company says to please limit bags to 25 pounds or less, and cans to 50 lbs or less. The drivers will not be responsible for overweight bags that tear.

The special collection week, however, does not include unlimited curbside recycling, bulky items such as furniture and appliances, hazardous materials, or construction and/or remodeling debris.

Additionally, SSC will collect Christmas trees for recycling between January 2 and 21st. This service is provided for no additional charge to Meridian residential trash customers.

You’re asked to remove all ornaments, tree stands, lights, and tinsel before setting your tree at the curb. To fit in the SSC trucks, trees must be cut into sections no longer than 4 feet.

You can also recycle wrapping paper (not foil paper) and boxes in your wheeled recycling cart.

Residents are asked to place the tree next to the wheeled trash cart. Trees will be picked up on the same day your trash is collected. SSC will take them to the Ada County sanitary landfill, where they will be ground into useful mulch.

Meridian residents can also bring their Christmas tree to the SSC transfer station free of charge from December 26 until January 31. (Limit of one tree per visit.)

The Ada County Landfill will accept Christmas trees free of charge from December 24, 2011 thru January 21, 2012.
