Officials with the Boise National Forest are advising campers to plan ahead before heading out on Memorial Day weekend.

After an extreme winter season, some of your favorite camping spots could be closed due to flooding or a wiped-out entrance to a campground.

"Unfortunately, with the winter that we've had, we might have some closures because of public safety," Venetia Gempler with the Boise National Forest said.  "People should check in at the districts or check on our website because those closures change; they might change daily."

The Elk Flat Campground in the Mountain Home Ranger District is closed due to flooding from the South Fork Boise River.

"Our seasonal workforce is out and patrolling and preparing the campgrounds for the summer use," Gempler said. "We're doing everything we can to make sure those campgrounds are open and safe."

As always, Gempler suggests anyone recreating in the outdoors tell others where they're going and be prepared for the elements.
