Three people are dead after a crash on Highway 95 south of Council.

It happened shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Idaho State Police say someone driving a Dodge Ram headed northbound tried to pass a vehicle.  Investigators say the driver sideswiped an SUV that was headed south.  That SUV was forced off the shoulder of the road, five people inside the SUV were not injured.

Police say the Dodge continued north and collided head on with another pickup headed south.  That second truck caught fire after the crash.  ISP says the driver of the Dodge and two people in the second truck died at the scene.

Investigators have not released the names of anybody involved at this time.

Highway 95 was shut down in both directions for almost seven hours while crews were on scene.
