A 45-year-old woman has been charged with arson by authorities after they say she attempted to set fire to her home.

Ann Michelle Lotero is in Ada County Jail on an arson charge after being arrested on Wednesday, March 30th.

She posted a $25,000 bond and was released on Thursday.

Deputies began their investigation on September 14, 2015 after firefighters responded to a home located at 755 S. Ash Avenue in Kuna, Idaho.

A man driving in the area reported that he could smell smoke coming from the home and saw two people moving items from inside the home into a car parked in the driveway.

The man approached the people and asked if anyone had called 911 to report the possibility of a fire. They said they had not, and he proceeded to call Ada County dispatch.

The man saw smoke coming from the rear of the house. One of the people that the man saw in the driveway came into the back of the house with a garden house and the man sprayed down the rear of the home before firefighters arrived. Lotero arrived moments later.

Investigators later found six different places inside the home where it appears that ignition points were intentionally set to start a fire.

The investigation results were handed over to Ada County prosecutors, who issued an arrest warrant for Lotero on March 21.

The crime of first-degree arson is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

Lotero is scheduled in court for a preliminary hearing on April 14th.
