Homedale woman dies in wrong way collision

PENDLETON, Ore. – Two people were killed in a wrong-way collision on I-84 early Sunday morning.

On April 3, 2016, at about 1:30AM, a 1999 Saturn SL was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 outside of Pendleton. The wrong way driver forced a 1998 Saturn SL off the highway near milepost 217 on I-84 eastbound.

The driver of the 1998 Saturn, Sherry Marie Anderson, 24, of Rainier, Oregon was transported to St. Anthony's Hospital in Pendleton for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries she sustained in the crash.

The 1999 Saturn continued westbound in the eastbound lanes and struck a 2001 Chevrolet Venture head-on near milepost 214. Both the driver of the 1999 Saturn and the driver of the Chevrolet were killed in the collision.

A ten-year-old passenger in the Chevrolet was transported to St. Anthony's Hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the 1999 Saturn was identified as Shane R Ware, age 48, of Hermiston. The driver of the Chevrolet has been identified as Mary A Padilla, age 47, of Homedale, Idaho.

It is unknown at this time if drug or alcohol impairment was a factor in the crashes.
