Farm tractor crash near Caldwell kills one, injures four

UPDATE 9/26/16 3:34 p.m.: 

The driver of the 1998 Silver Nissan Quest Van was identified as Edgar Alaniz, 28 yrs old of Homedale Idaho. The driver’s wife, 24, was transported to West Valley for evaluation. The driver and two minor children in the vehicle were uninjured.

The driver of the 1st 2013 John Deere Tractor was identified as Samuel Palacio 37 yrs old of Caldwell, Idaho, was transported to West Valley Medical center for evaluation.

The driver of the 2nd 2013 John Deere Tractor was identified as Augustin Rangel 55 yrs old of Caldwell Idaho. Augustin Rangel was transported to West Valley Medical center and subsequently died from his injuries.

The accident currently remains under investigation.

Original Story:

One person has died and four people were sent to a hospital after a crash on Homedale Road, near Caldwell on Sunday morning.

On Sunday around 8:00 a.m., two farm tractors were driving eastbound on Homedale Road near Beet Road. A van was following the tractors as they traveled eastbound. The driver of the van attempted to pass both of the tractors and struck the first tractor.

The driver of the first tractor was ejected. The van’s momentum carried it into the back of the second tractor which overturned and ejected the driver of the second tractor. The van and tractors came to rest in the roadway.

Five people were transported to West Valley Medical Center for treatment. One victim later died from the injuries sustained in the crash.

No names have been released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Homedale road was blocked for several hours as Deputies investigated and cleared the accident scene. The accident remains under investigation by the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office.
