The Ponderosa Elementary School in the 2900 block of North Naomi Avenue in north Meridian was placed on lockdown about 9 a.m. Thursday –- but it ended up to be a false alarm.

West Ada School District spokesman Eric Exline says the alarm was accidentally tripped, prompting secueiry measures to be set in motion.

“School hadn’t started yet, so the students were not in their classrooms yet,” Exline stated. “When the alarm was activated, staff and teachers at the school accompanied the students off the campus.”

Students and staff congregated at various location throughout the neighborhood while police searched the school.

Paramedics were also called to the scene, as a precaution.

Students were let back onto campus about an hour later.
