Lunchtime in downtown Boise is bustling with foot traffic and motorists, alike.

Drivers who block intersections and crosswalks received warnings last week.

However, tickets are now being issued at some of the busiest intersections during peak times. Those problematic areas have been identified as Capitol Boulevard and Front Street, 13th and Grove Streets and Main and 9th Streets.

Concerns came in to the Boise Police Department a few months ago. After checking engineering behind the traffic flow and educating the public with warnings, enforcement is now in full force.

"I don't know if we so much can fix it until the construction is gone, but we can try to prevent it as much as we can," says Officer Everett Corona, Boise Police Department. "That's ultimately our goal... to try and make the commuting traffic aware of what the law is and just to be a little bit more patient."

The fine for blocking an intersection and crosswalk is $90.

On Wednesday and Thursday, at least 100 drivers were cited. It is advised to use your best judgement on whether or not you can clear the intersection.
