Boise City Council President Elaine Clegg and Mayor Chia-Lung Lin of Taichung, Republic of China (Taiwan) signed a friendship agreement between the two cities Monday.
The event took place in the City Council Chambers in Boise City Hall.
“The friendship agreement promotes a friendly exchange between the two cities in the areas of culture, economics, technology, green energy, aerospace, agriculture and education,” said Boise City spokesperson Amanda Brown.
Lin and Clegg participated in a panel discussion earlier this year in Taipei at the Smart Cities Conference, she added,
Taichung City is the fourth largest city in Taiwan -- with a population of approximately 2.5 million people -- and has been called the most livable city in Taiwan.
“Semiconductors are one of their most important industries and Micron Technology has a facility in the city,” Brown said.
Lin is leading a delegation in the United States that included stops in San Jose and San Francisco, before arriving in Boise.
