On an average day the airport sees around 6,000 to 7,000 people through its gates, but during the holidays that number nearly doubles, making it that much more important to be ready to go through security.

Remove all items from your pockets, and avoid wearing clothing or jewelry with large metal pieces on them.

Remember to put all liquids, aerosol, gels and creams, in a one quart sized bag and those are limited to 3.4 ounces per item.

"It's important to be prepared because it expedited the process, not just for you but for everybody else who is traveling that day as well," said Sean Briggs of the Boise Airport. "People traveling during the holidays usually only travel once or twice a year so you have more inexperienced travelers coming through the checkpoint. "The most important thing to remember is.. expect delays, show up early, and bring your patience because holiday traveling things can take a little longer than usual."

Don't forget a commonly forgotten step, take your laptops out of your bag.

If taking your shoes and jackets off seems like too much, you can always sign up for TSA precheck.
