A lot of activity Wednesday morning at the new Meridian Idaho Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints -– where crews and a crane lifted the Angel Moroni into place atop the church.

“The placement of the Angel Moroni signifies that a majority of -– if not all -– the exterior construction (work on the temple) is now complete,” said Church spokesman Brian Whitlock. “It’s a significant milestone. The edifice now is largely complete on the exterior. Now crews can focus on the interior and the landscaping that needs to take place on the site.”

The golden trumpeting angel reminds church-goers of the second coming the Savior Jesus Christ.

Construction of the new temple, located at 7355 North Linder Road, started about two years ago.

No word yet on when construction work will be completed, but officials say it could be within the next few months.
