Ada County Coroner Dotti Owens said foul play is not suspected in the death of a homeless man whose body was found near the Broadway Avenue overpass Sunday.

The man was identified as James Leland Smith, 60, who has no known address.

The Coroner’s Office was dispatched to the area near Findley Street and Diamond Avenue under the Broadway bridge late Sunday afternoon on a report of a body found on the north side of the canal bank.

Owens says Smith was pronounced dead at about 4:27 p.m. Sunday.

“An autopsy revealed no obvious injuries that would result in death,” Owens said in a news release. “At this time, the cause and manner of death are pending.”

A toxicology test was conducted, but results may not be known for several weeks yet.

The Boise Police Department is still investigating the death.
