Did you wake up to a power outage this morning?

According to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, roughly 1,841 customers of Idaho Power had their power knocked out due to a 25-year-old Meridian man accused of hitting a power pole while intoxicated.

Bryce Martin Walker was charged with misdemeanor counts of excessive DUI and driving without a valid license after officers responded to a crash just before 1:30 a.m. near Ten Mile and Ardell Road.

According to deputies, Walker lost control of his truck and hit the base of a power pole, causing it to snap.

Walker’s truck was also badly damaged in the crash.

Deputies reported Walker was slurring his speech and had the odor of alcohol on his breath. When tested, Walker's blood alcohol content was three times the legal limit, police say.

Walker will make his initial court appearance Thursday.

Idaho Power had to replace the pole and repair the wires. The outage lasted until about 5:25 a.m.
