Home Entertainment Preview: December 4
(The Dark Knight Rises - Warner Brothers - Rated PG-13)
The Dark Knight Rises is an exciting, thrilling, brilliantly made but decidedly dark film, and a brilliant conclusion to a terrific series. The flawless special effects are jaw dropping and the direction is superb. Add a wonderful twist ending that ties up all three movies nicely, and you have an absolute winner! Extras include a featurette. The blu-ray adds five featurettes.
(The Dark Knight Trilogy - Warner Brothers - Rated PG-13)
In case you don’t have the first two movies and need them all in a single boxed set, The Dark Knight Trilogy is for you. It features a 64 page excerpt from the hardcover book, The Art and Making of the Dark Knight Trilogy.
(Hope Springs - Sony - Rated PG-13)
Hope Springs features courageous, winning performances from Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones. The film is touching, funny, awkward, and pretty darn terrific. Bonus features include a gag reel, commentary, a featurette and alternate takes. The blu-ray adds four featurettes.
(Beasts of the Southern Wild - Sony - Rated R)
Beasts of the Southern Wild is a sparse, peculiar film that teeters on the edge between reality and fantasy. It features performances by the two leads that are quite good, especially knowing that they had never acted before. Special features include Auditions, deleted scenes, and five featurettes.
(The Simpsons The Fifteenth Season – 20th Century Fox – Not Rated)
The Fifteenth Season of the longest running series in TV history, The Simpsons comes to disc with 22 episodes on 4 discs, along with commentary, deleted scenes, five featurettes and more.
(Ken Follet’s World Without End – Sony – Not Rated)
The sequel to the TV miniseries The Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follet’s World Without End is an eight part miniseries set in Europe during the Dark Ages. Extras include a making of featurette.
