New DVDs for your Thanksgiving week
(Expendables 2 – Lionsgate – Rated R)
Big and dumb but tons of fun, The Expendables 2 has great action with an ultra high body count and Chuck Norris! This bombastic film features every catch phrase from every action movie these guys made, usually said with a wink and a nod. It's exactly what you expect, and exactly what you want.
Bonus features include commentary, four featurettes, a gag reel and deleted scenes.
(Christmas with Danny Kaye – Inception Entertainment – Not Rated)
Here’s a piece of television history that will help you get into the Christmas spirit. Christmas with Danny Kaye features two Christmas episodes from the Danny Kay Show which aired in the mid 1960’s. the first features Nat King Cole, Mary Tyler Moore, Harvey Korman and Jaime Farr, while the second include Peggy Lee and Wayne Newton. I loved it. It’s My Pick of the Week.
(Zorro – Sommerville House – Rated PG)
1975’s Zorro is a cheesy, glorious boatload of swashbuckling fun – perfect for watching on a lazy Saturday afternoon curled up with a large bowl of crackers and two cans of cheese whiz. This is the fully restored international English language edition starring Alain Dellon in a sort of Spaghetti Western version of Zorro. There are no bonus features.
(Tanatino XX – Lionsgate – Rated R)
Eight of Quentin Tarantino’s best films from his first 20 years are all in Tarantino XX – 10 discs that include Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2 and more. 5 hours of bonus features are included in this terrific blu-ray set.
